I love cooking, but also love eating out and thankfully, so does my husband. We like to visit different restaurants in town, but there are only a couple of them where we like to go back over and over again. One of them is the Allende restaurant in the port zone of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Allende Restauración consists of three establishments. Two of them are Tasca-restaurants, and the third and the newest one is a bistro bar. Every restaurant has a different menu, but there are a lot of dishes that are served in all of their establishments. The first Allende name-bearing restaurant in Las Palmas was opened in 2009, the second in 2010, and the third one in 2012. All these restaurants are very well situated in the most important places around the city – near the marina, shopping centers, old town, and beach.

So far we have visited the first two restaurants and hopefully, soon we will have a chance to enjoy a good meal in their newest addition too.

Allende Puerto

Situated on a pedestrian street near the Las Canteras beach and Mesa y Lopez shopping avenue – it is the first restaurant Allende Restauración opened.

Allende Puerto offers a variety of Spanish dishes (including tapas) with an interesting twist. This local restaurant has both in and outdoor seating as well as a bar area. We usually eat in the outdoor area, as there is more space for Sofia’s stroller and it’s nice to see what’s happening on the street.  It’s a busy place, so I would recommend booking a table if you don’t want to wait for one.

The bar area only serves tapas, so if you want to order from the menu, you have to choose a table outside or in the restaurant itself. You can’t order any tapas if you are not seated in a bar area. That’s why we haven’t tried any of their tapas.

Menu

There are some dishes we have tried once and then there are dishes we like to repeat. We always order various dishes and share. So I’ll show you our favorites from Allende’s menu.

Fried Eggplant with Cane Honey

We tried it last time we visited the restaurant and we will order it more for sure. Crispy deep-fried eggplant sticks with strongly flavored honey – delicious! I tried to make this dish at home, but the result doesn’t deserve a mention.

Huevos Rotos con Chistorra (fried egg with potatoes and spicy sausage)

It’s a yummy plate full of comfort food. Thin slices of potato chips mixed with eggs and topped with chistorra sausages. Simple ingredients create a mouth-watering combination. We have ordered this food every single time we have visited the restaurant.

Grilled Herreño Cheese with Red Pepper Marmalade

This is by far one of my favorite entreès offered in Allende. Herreño cheese is a smoked cheese that consists of a mix of goat, cow, and sheep milk. It’s produced on the island of Hierro, one of the Canary Islands. Grilled and then topped with sweet red pepper marmalade – the mix of flavors is just amazing.

If you are visiting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and need a place where to eat, Allende Puerto is a good choice. Fair prices, good portions, fast service, and of course the delicious food make it an experience worth trying!
